Multifolds 3: 3D Box Cards/Pop Up Cards

I hope you all have been liking the two sets that I have shared till now...and if you didnt you are free to tell me your views so that I see another perspective to my cards! Today am sharing a fold that I tried for the first time thanks to Tee....I was struggling with the choice of my last and fifth fold and she sent me a link and a pic ...the moment I saw the pic I knew I wanted to do this fold for sure!

The fold is awesome but the problem was the size that we had to do -4x4! Its an odd size which does not allow you to do any embellishing on the background ...and even if you emboss etc it will hardly show...but the problem starts when you feel this and decide to leave it blank...then in the overall effect it looks too blank!Sticky problem there!!

The trick that I would suggest in case you wanna try this fold in the same size 4X4 is that you create a seamless background and then decide to embellish the front so that the overall effect is elevated....never ever do the fold and choose your PP and stick it...actually that would be the worst thing to do for any fold or even a simple card but specially for this card its a sin to choose the PP and stick it....

You will get a clearer picture when I explain it with the individual cards...

I had planned the PP colors and the stamp that I wanted to have.....but soon realised in my trials that there was a lot of blank space look where as there was not much space in actuality to embellish (only half inch on both sides and top too...). After staring at it for a while the only solution I had was to stamp a few extra balloons to embellish the side....

This is what the fold looks like....

I faced the same problem again..... and this was the best solution I could come up with- BLING!

The side view....

I wasnt so happy with my first two attempts so decided to do something else with the fold.. .I took out my script background stamp ..inked with yellow and stamped on white card stock ....took another stamp ..inked with green and stamped over it and then a tim hotlz flourish stamp with a  brown ink...have a look !

I really loved the effect ....but soon realised that the finished stamped hand created PP cannot be the front flap as it was too busy to further embellish! So I re did the first two layers of stamping only for the front flap....added the sunflowers and the flourish die cuts ....I liked what I saw ...atleast a better effect than the first two!

The side view....

After the above card I knew exactly what I wanted to do for my last card.....

The background PP is hand stamped....using grid stamp from Kaisercraft with yellow ink and the butterfly clock script stamp is a second hand wood mount stamp  I bought from a friend inked with olive green ....the bird cage and the bird are die cuts...the two red flowers are stamped ...added a stick pin and a feather with a touch of bling to give it a wholesome effect....and I loved the outcome!

The side view....

This fold was a total experiment and I have learned from my mistakes ...and by rectifying it ...I could finally come up with something that I was satisfied with!!! I just hope I have been able to help a few out there who would want to try this fold to avoid the mistakes I did and plan their card a lil better than I did! :)

Multifolds 2: Telescopic Cards

Hi all...am here again to show you my telescopic cards from the swap set .....this was the easiest set as not much of calculations were involved here...I just had to get the right size of scallop and circle dies to do the needful...what actually kept me busy was choosing the card stocks...as the circles would be nesting within each other to form an overall look ..it was really important for me to choose the right colors to make it look bright and nice!

Thats the set.....

See what I meant when I talked about the colors of the cards stock....The top is a Unity Stamp stamped with the Tissue Paper technique....one of my favourite techniques in stamping!!!

The open view....

The Disney Princess theme telescopic card...

The open view....The swirls are directly stamped onto the card stock and the princess are stamped on a separate card stock and then fussy cut and stuck to the card base....

The Tinkerbell themed telescopic card...

The open view....done in the same fashion as the princess theme telescopic card ...all images are colored with Koi waterbrush color pens

This was an odd color combo but I liked it a lot...

The open view ....simple stamping and a lil bit of 3 D glaze pens....

Tomorrow I shall be sharing a 3 D box card/ pop card...whatever you call it :)

Multifolds 1: Step Card

I have been crafting like a crazy bird for our swaps at Swap Central India....It had been a lovely thought when we decided that we should try and do multifold notecards...as in all participnats would have to choose any 5 kinds of fancy folds and make 4 cards of each fold but embellish it different (so that makes it 20 cards in total) and to challenge ourselves and to drive us out of our comfort zone we made the size of the finished card as 4X4....but what we never realised was that by doing so we have turned this into the most difficult swap we ever planned!

Not only where there calculations involved to downsize a normal multifold card...but a lot of planning needed to embellish them. What had looked like a small 4x4 space suddenly turned into a big deal of a space where I myself (though one of the ideator and coordinator of the swap) went blank and also the number 20 was now a huge task! And to add to it I was crafting after a long break of 3 months so to remove the rust on my mind and hands also took time.....

Anyways I did manage it well....and in the days to come I shall share each set of folds in  a day! Here's my 20 cards that I sent over ....

Today I shall share the Step Card.......my idea through out the swap was to try and variate as much as I could with the folds keeping the basic idea of the fold intact.....

Thats my set of 4 Step Card....2 two step cards and 2 one step card!!!

I think in this card I used up most of my new dies that had just arrived and a few that I had not opened in December! The hot balloons and the fence die  are from memory box and die-nemics respectively and the butterfly set is a die and coordinating stamp set from Sizzix... The grass is hand cut and the clouds are hand made.

The side view...

Another scene created ....with the help of dies and stamps... the houses and the car are Hero Arts Stamp while the clouds and the tree is a die-nemics and memory box die respectively.....the two steps have pattern paper ...sorry I really dont remember the name of the paper stack :( ....

The side view....

The tree die has been double cut in green and brown card stock and stuck to give a double edged color feel....

This is a one step card....the orange and pink background is the effect of my new found love - "Dylusions" :) and the bicycle is a die cut....

 Thats the side view....

Thats how it opens up....what I learnt later was this could be called a "z" fold card but to me it was a one step card....I think I should read up more on folds I guess.....

I flipped the above step card horizontally to get this card done.....

 The side view.....

Now thats my one fold complete....watch out for the other folds in the coming up posts...Hope you all liked it...Feedback and comments are most welcomed as always and tips to improve are even more looked forward to!!!

And for all those who shared their experiences with me over making projects and editing photos...I believe we all are on the page same!!!!! Thanks for writing in :)....

Miss Bluey

I wonder which is the toughest part....making the project or clicking pictures ..editing it and then transforming it into a blog post! Well, for me ...am lost when I have to click pictures and write about it...let me know the toughest part you guys face...

When I started crafting I thought Vintage was definitely a tough color tone to work with until I discovered that there was more to vintage than just black, brown , whites and off whites....to know more click here.  But as I tried vintage I realised that mixing colors ...finding the right contrast was a tougher job at hand until I had to work with monochromatics!!!

Yes, I found monochromatics to be the toughest ...not because you have to work with one hue but because you have to make sure that though you are using one hue (or max at times combining it with whites, blacks, greys) each and every element you use to show itself! The elements should blend with each other in totality but at teh same time should not lose their individual identity and their importance in that project! Phew...now that's a tough job!

I worked on a tag for a swap at 2 Shabby Sisters Studio and that's what am sharing today....its had to be a monochromatic 6x4 1/2 tag and my partner wanted a blue tag....so here it is...

The base is a cereal box ...layered with a lot of medical gauge cloth used to tie bandages....with a lot of  mod podge , dylusion sprays, acrylic colors (Teal, Turquoise, Light Blue, Cerulean Blue) and glitters! I allowed it to dry for about 5 hours till it was ready to work on....

My next thing while the tag was drying was to prepare the other elements I intended to use... I got this Itsy Bitsy flower and painted it with the same solution that I had prepared to paint the base ( mod podge , dylusion sprays, acrylic colors (Teal, Turquoise, Light Blue, Cerulean Blue) and glitters!) and a layer of blue net available with me from a diwali packaging I got from Balaji Telefilms during my job at Star Plus! It pays to save gift packaging at times!

The next thing was to take two beautiful grey colored Itsy Bitsy butterflies and paint them with the same solution (mod podge , dylusion sprays, acrylic colors (Teal, Turquoise, Light Blue, Cerulean Blue) and glitters!) ....Please remember the challenge was to have a monochromatic tag with the same shade alone....of course when I say same solution the proportion of colors varied so that I could create tones of the same hue! The quote you see is self made to match the theme....as I used a lot of blooms and the Tim Holtz Clock die at the background (hope you noticed that)... I first painted a white Fabriano card stock with my prepared solution (with the glitter) and then took a print out before I stamped over it with SU blue ink...and then die cut it and added the bling!

Closer look at the sentiment....

The medical gauge cloth mesh with the clock die.....

The left over of the Fabriano card stock I painted was used to die cut the flourishes ....

A flower created with the net and a brad added to hold it in place!

Added ribbons and laces to give it a final touch and am off to send it to my friend who stays in United States...woohooo....

Let me know what you think of the tag!!!!!

Its Women's Day Celebrations ....

I know I just vanished in December with some hurried posts thanks to my Marriage but am back for good now after a long long 3 months break....

It was tough getting back to crafting after such a long break....my mind rusted and hands not working smooth on paper....but I somehow managed....pics shall soon follow....but today am here for a post dedicated to the women in my life who have inspired me...taught me...loved me....encouraged me in this crafting world....all thanks to a random idea that my friend Tejal sprang up with and Khush and me jumped to.....We encouraged people on our Swap group to make cards for anyone in the crafting world who has inspired them...taught them etc and post the blog post link  anytime between 8th March to 15th March....

Talking about the women in my life ....there are many ...but when I try and confine it to crafting world ...I have made a lot of friends ...been inspired by hundreds and been taught by thousands....but today am dedicating this post to 3 women only!! Sorry others not that I dont love you or I cant credit you but I have my reasons ....

Tejal and Khush were an obvious choice ....not because we are friends but also because they are the ones who have been there through my tough times and inspired me to get on with my crafting drive whenever am low or going through a creative block!!!

Tejal is someone I connect with like soul mate.....with too many similarities that freaks us out...but apart from that ...we are constantly discussing techniques ....inspirations..videos...products ....ideas...(along with a lot of gossip and bitching and cribbing) that have taught me a lot ...made me aware of things that I would have never know and more importantly made my brain work with ideas that flow in seconds.....I know she has undergone a renovation in her crafting style but I made a complete CAS stamped card for her...something that she is famous for ...or rather was famous for (she has not made a CAS Stamped cards in recent times and moved beyond just one style which am really happy about..)  and there are no butterflies or bling :( I did that last time for her birthday so I decided to drop them in this one.....

All stamped up......

The sentiment is a printed out.....and the card idea is something that is inspired by another women from the crafting world.....Neha Bhatt!!

I have interacted with Neha over FB a lot of times but when I met her for the first time in Ahmedabad along with Tejal ..I never imagined I would be inspired by her and the way she crafts...she is someone who never fears to try something new....experiment and innovate and create...does not fear to share her knowledge.....and must say the only crafter till date who is stinkingly neat in her work!!! I had to point out the neatness factor as I have never seen anyone being neat and clean with their crafting projects ...and I say this as I find the photos to be amazing but when I see the final piece in my hand I feel its nothing close to the photos ...but her work certainly is what you see in the photographs. While we chatted over Ice Tea....I realised that she uses a lot of quotes/sentiments written from everywhere...I write them too in my diary since I was in school but never made a card around those quotes/sentiments! I realised this could be real fun and more importantly thats the way cards should be....woven around the sentiment and not have decor with a sentiment where none compliment each other.......and my above card for Tee (Tejal) is thanks to Neha....and since she inspired me to core...I dedicate a card to her too!!

And now coming to the last card or the third woman...oops she is still a naughty....playful kiddo.....sorry Khush :P ..hyper with her reactions and anger but she is like a rocket...rises up and after a burst out calms down....she is super fun and at times drives Tee and me crazy with her constant pings over ideas ...color combos etc etc....but at the end of the day she is someone who encourages me no matter what and gives an honest feedback on my projects (that definitely needs guts.....to say what you think of someone's work ) ..I feel I have known her since ages and the daily calls (sometimes 5 times a day) make me feel she is right there in my town and I can walk up to her house (but thats not true :( *sob *sob).... .She loves pink and is mad about multifolds/fancy folds so I had to come up with something to keep up to her taste!!!

The back with a detachable tag....

The card folds flat for posting purpose....sorry in a hurry did not take the flat folded photo...

I just hope the three women like what I have done to show my love and respect towards them...love you all...muuuaahhhh......
