Color Conception Challenges: Nail it Down with Textures

Hi am back today with the Color Conceptions Challenges: Nail it Down with Textures.....

Let me make the theme more clear for you. We are looking at any kind and all sorts of textures that you can create with the help of embossing folders, with the use of fabrics like laces, burlaps, mesh, net or with the use of mixed media paraphernalia like gesso, gel mediums, texture paste, utee, embossing powders, sprays etc. The more the textures the better! The only condition is that whatever method you choose to incorporate, the projects need to be something that you can hang on your doors or walls- like a key chain hanger, name plate, wall hanging, scrapbook layouts, wall clocks and so on....

One random winner from the participants would receive a GIFT VOUCHER worth Rs 500, to purchase in our shop - www.thecraftshop.in

Hi Friends,

Coming to the new challenge on Tuesday Alchemy ....we have "Anything But A Card" this week ..so think...think ...think...and any project of yours other than a Card is most welcome ....and our sponsors this week are

1. Di's Digi Download

2. Hugs 4 the Heart Designs

And now without much ado lets see what I made for my DT inspiration for the challenge...

I get excited with every project but its really fun to put on the thinking cap to try something other than cards and scrapbooks....I have done this memo board (bulletin board/notice board) before for my exhibition but didn't have good photos plus that was my first time so that was purely experimental and impromptu...while this had a planning and proper design done....

This is how one can put the project to use....and it also has space to stick a photograph  ....

While I made one for the DT post ....I could not stop with this and ended up making two more...Have a look....

A sister themed memo board.....with load of Itsy Bitsy Blooms and bright colors....

Another Family themed Memo Board...

All three together.......Hope you like ...Do drop by the Tuesday Alchemy Blog to see what the other DTs have done and leave them some love....do join in with your creations and share with us for the Anything But A Card Challenge

My Dream Piece for My Room

As a kid, sorry ...that's a real mistake  ...I think even now...am a stationary freak...I mean age has nothing to do with it...by stationary I not only mean ..pens or diaries but also stuff on walls...be it storage related...decor related....or just a handy post it page...anything!!! I was hardly allowed posters on walls (my mom was too strict and did not want me to spoil "her" wall...am still figuring out why was it called "her" wall!!) ...which I would have otherwise loved to just showcase my art and sometimes my dreams and aspirations and inspirations!!!

None the less I was happy to go through a magazine and finally not only find the inspiration but also the zeal to try and venture into something new and create something which was not only fun to use...but also fun to make!!!  I discovered the fun of "Memo Boards"/"Bulletin Board" ....

Am really sorry for the bad picture quality but I was in a hurry ...the light not being on my side and I had to get them ready for packing to dispatch!!!

I took some canvass...painted them with acrylic paints ....took a cardstock ..punched a border on one side stuck it up....and embellished it with flowers and a tag....so that the person who owned it could put a photograph of herself/family or friends and write her name /occasion /event to personalise it ...
If you see I have added to colorful wooden clip with the help of glue gun to make them sturdy...one can fix their to do lists...home work lists....shopping list ..anything to the clips and they would hold it tight....The blooms are from Itsy Bitsy!!!

Link up for Pink

Here's another girly one that I did in the similar fashion!!!! The swirls and flourishes are thick chipboards from Itsy Bitsy...so is the butterfly...which has been misted and colored with Spritz Copper Shimmer from Aditya's store...both of them my favourite online stores ....and Aditya is the most beautiful and wonderful human being I have ever interacted with....Not only is he prompt with his replies ....he is someone who cares to pack the products so well that you are sure they would reach you without a scratch!!!

After doing two girly boards ..I did a slightly boyish board with spaceships as the theme!!! The clouds are thick chipboards again from Itsy Bitsy....colored with white acrylic paints and misted with shimmer that the camera has not capture at all...:( sigh!!!

So what do you have to say....aren't these handy....not just handy but once up on the wall....am sure they would serve as a beautiful wall decor!!!

Mixed Media....Canvass Art

I have been fascinated by Mixed Media for quiet some time now and have read and read and read on the same so much that I just had to try it out....but yess ...I didnt have most of the essentials materials like gesso, alcohol inks, sprays and mists etc.....what I had was Mod Podge and an idea!!!

I refused to let go of the idea so I did a simple canvass art.....have a look...

I had a wedding theme in my mind ...but not a typical festive feel but one about companionship and homeliness .....
Its a 8X8 canvass that I have used.....and I thought having no base color brought out the colors in the elements better!!!

The flowers and the entire left side of the canvass is free hand drawing inspired from a sketch I saw in Pinterest...I love the site which gives me my daily dose of inspiration....and I have used all kinds of medium to color it...from fine tip pens to Tombow Markers to Staedtler watercolor pencils to some other local made watercolor pencils....and watercolors ...sparkle mist just to add a lil shimmer....phew!!! I just went crazy with it....:) the drawing was done on Brustro Watercolor paper...

The pink border is a SD die cut....and the house and the couple are stamped images colored with Tombow Markers...

For the tickets that you see popping out of the house ....on the flower...and behind the couple on the top....have been stamped on Brustro watercolor paper....but I first colored it with different watercolors and then misted it with golden and silver mists....before the stamping!!!

Have a closer look at the blooms....

The couple is stamped on Brustro ...but I darkened the image with a fine tip pen before cutting and sticking it...
This was my first attempt with doodling too!!!

All the cut outs are first stuck with Mod Podge and then two layers of Mod Podge layers have been brushed on top of it ...I realised that the paper was too thick and hence the edges were not smooth !!! Maybe some more layers of Mod Podge will have to be brushed to give it a smoother finish!!!

Hope you like it as much as I did.....but I really had fun creating this ....experimenting with different coloring mediums can really be exciting and crazy....

Do leave your comments and feedback....they encourage me....

Friendship At its Peak !!

This was her first attempt at Horse Riding.... that too on her birthday at Hong Kong Lychee Village ..I just loved this place for its greenery .....as for the scrapbook part...I love the use of rub on stickers in this!!

Our happy times together...some of the best memories we have till date, the first photograph is from one of the wedding  ceremonies of my eldest brother, the second one is at the cruise while going to Discovery Bay in Hong Kong...one of our best trips, the third one is again at Hong Kong guess while we celebrated my birthday at the American Club...must say the pastry was the best I ever had!!!

This is my mad and crazy girl gang of  Mumbai....fun is really at its peak when we freak out ....and though the photographs are not that great as they were taken on the mobile they still hold a special place in all our hearts ....We had gone crazy that day and decided to visit the Juhu Chaupatty at around 1am just to have Golas!!!

This is my friend Manish who makes awesome tea and we have had some really good memories together with Garry (another friend)...I made this for him as a gift for his new house...Sorry for that shiny reflection bit.....but I like the color combination though I do feel that I should have made it a lil more boyish as the flowers added here make it look a lil girly but never mind...now that its done and gifted ....hehehhe...the best part is this was the first time I tried scrapping on a CANVASS!!! Yesssss, the green background that you see is actually a canvass hand painted and then transformed into a scrapbook page.....
